Exercise and Osteoporosis.
What is the Exercise and Osteoporosis Course?
Osteoporosis is a disease that sneaks up on you. You may have no symptoms until “snap” you break one of your bones.
Osteoporosis is a crippling disease but the good thing is it is reversible. You can increase your Bone Mineral Density and you don’t necessarily need drugs to do it. Strength training gets the best results (apart from medication) of all other things you can do to try to increase your Bone Mineral Density. You may have been told, even by your doctor, that walking is the best exercise – this is incorrect. Yes, walking will help decrease weight or increase your fitness but it is not the most effective form of exercise to remodel your bones. That is why you need a course like this. This course will take you through some bone building exercises that are specifically designed for you.
Who will benefit from this course?
Anyone with:
- osteoporosis
- osteopaenia
- decreased bone mineral density
- a family history of osteoporosis
- a suspicion you may have one of the above conditions.
- a history of taking medicine that leeches bone of calcium (e.g. prednisone)
If you have osteoporosis this is categorised as a medical chronic condition which makes you eligible for a lifestyle management plan (Enhanced Primary Care) through your doctor.
