What is Heartmoves?
Heartmoves is a low to moderate intensity exercise programme that was developed by the Heart Foundation to assist people to become more active and live a healthy lifestyle. The programmes are run by Fitness Professionals who have undergone specific training.
Heartmoves is endorsed by Fitness Australia, the Australian Physiotherapy Association, the Exercise and Sports Science Association and the Diabetic Educator’s Association.
Who will benefit?
Heartmoves classes are particularly designed for people with a chronic medical condition or for those who have not exercised for a while. The classes will assist you to keep active and therefore give you all of the benefits that a gentle exercise programme can provide. The classes also allow you to exercise with people who have a similar level of fitness, thereby enabling you to have fun and meet other people at the same time. Heartmoves is not a substitute for cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation but is an appropriate class as progression from a hospital-based rehab programme. Your GP will be able to advise you further about this.
