Steady Steps.

What is Steady Steps?
Steady Steps is a fall’s prevention programme developed by Qld Health in conjunction with Fitness Queensland’s Active Ageing Committee. The content of this course is valid, and because it is a group activity there is a high compliance and adherence factor.

Who would benefit from this course?
People, especially over 50, who:

  • had a fall recently
  • feel less secure on their feet
  • feel less confident doing daily activities
  • have trouble getting out of a chair
  • walk with an aid or a stick
  • would like to start exercising but don’t know where to begin
  • want to stay independent
  • want to enjoy their senior years

People with limitations such as:

  • osteoporosis/ osteopaenia
  • decreasing Bone Mineral Density
  • a history of oseoporosis in the family
  • poor balance
  • a recent notable decline in balance in the last few years
  • previously broken bone from fall
  • a sedentary lifestyle
  • obesity

Benefits for participants:
Successful participants will come away from this course with an awareness of where and when falls may occur. They will have increased physical skills to prevent falls. They will know what to do in the case of a fall. The group participation will also provide them with new friends.

 

If you have Osteoporosis this is caterogised as a medical chronic condition which makes you eligible for a lifestyle management plan (Enhanced Primary Care) through your doctor. For more information click here
