Exercise for Children

Did you know that children aged between 5-15 years of age need to accumulate at least 60mins of
moderate to vigorous physical activity each and every day?

For children who are living with, or are at risk of developing a chronic condition, exercise is equally, if
not even more important. Tailored physical activity can play a significant role in managing their
health and improving quality of life whether for chronic conditions, disability or injury.

The Green Apple’s Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) can prescribe tailored exercise for children aged 5 –
15 under our Paediatric Exercise Physiology program. We have clinical paediatric expertise in a non-
clinical environment so that your child will feel relaxed and will enjoy being active. We can liaise with
your child’s GP, specialist and other health professionals to ensure outcomes suited to your child’s
physiological needs and goals.

Exercise physiology sessions will be personalised to your child and may include:

  • Assessment of medical conditions and/or musculoskeletal injuries/dysfunction
Physical fitness testing (e.g. cardiorespiratory function, muscle strength and range of
    motion)
  • Functional movement analysis with relation to childhood development and goals (e.g. gait,
running, jumping, throwing, catching and balancing)
  • Exercise prescription and supervision in accordance with goals

Before a Teen starts a training program, they are required to see one of our Exercise Physiologist for two one-on-one sessions to establish a program specifically designed for them which they can then do under supervision in a small group.

Our focus is on the individual, teaching them to use equipment safely and making it fun and this helps them stay active.
