Despite the rain on the public holiday on Exhibition Day last Wednesday, we had a good turnout at Green Apple during the hours we opened from 6am till 10am. Thank you for making the effort if you were one of those diligent exercisers!
When we closed Brian and I took advantage of the public holiday status and decided to leave a day early for Lamb Island, Brian driving to Redland Bay with a load of supplies as usual and I cycled down as usual. I didn’t see one other cyclist on the road as I rode through the rain, so they probably saved their effort for a non-rainy day.
I actually enjoyed the ride but was amazed at how much road-grime I accumulated all over my body and bike. There have been roadworks everywhere for some time and the rain and sodden roads must have flung it up as I was riding along. I didn’t feel it happening but three and a half hours later when I climbed off the bike, all I could see was a black coating all over my shoes, socks, bare legs and cycling shorts, raincoat and bike. In all my years of cycling the only time that something similar happened was a cycling holiday in Vietnam with Brian in very wet monsoonal weather.
Can you help with member Lexie Dale’s plastic lid collection (preferably plastic bottle tops) for the Childcare centre in Bald Hills? We have a container in the small weights room under the Social Committee table near the doorway to the Functional Training room, for any donations.
The next Workshop to be conducted by exercise physiologist, Bridie, will address the topic of knee rehabilitation. It will probably carry the title of “Total Knee Replacement” however I want any member who has knee pain or dysfunction (ie unable to bend or straighten your knee properly etc) to consider attending these two x 90 minute sessions. I see so many people for knee treatment, which is being poorly managed and therefore affecting their lifestyle significantly, that it has made me realise how important it is to empower people with appropriate education so they can also help themselves. Just book in and do this Workshop if you have any knee problem.
