Hello to All Green Apples,
We have had such amazingly warm weather throughout March and April so it is a bit of a shock to be hauling the Doona onto the bed during the night, and then having to put on an extra layer in the morning before going into the gym at 4:30am to do my workout!
For the next few months you may need to put on layers if you are attending early in the day or later in the evening.
I find layered clothing more effective than wearing a heavy jacket or tracksuit over workout clothes. I remember when we were in Europe in much colder weather than experienced in Australia, we were advised to purchase some very fine but warm garments to take with us to be able to wear 4 layers of thin material on our body under a heavy overcoat. This was helpful when it came to packing because it took up a lot less room and it was also easy to be comfortable in any weather by taking off whatever layers we needed to depending where we were.
As we go into our cooler months, you may wish to consider some different activities to keep your body feeling good. Most of us probably don’t think it would be much fun getting into a pool during winter. However, if you have any form of arthritis and your body stiffens up in the cold, warm-water-walking, and exercising in warm water, could be a solution.
Our “water-babies” at Green Apple have it all worked out. They wear appropriate clothing over their swimming costumes which can be whipped off quickly and put back on speedily. They know it is the air chill getting into the pool, and when getting out, which needs to be done well to make the whole experience more fun.
If you would like a winter pool program made up for you, consider booking in with one of the Exercise Physiologists, or trial an Aqua class for group activity in the water. Don’t forget we have an Aqua class at 4pm on Mondays as well as 6pm on Wednesdays. When you participate in warm water activity later in the day like this, it does have a settling and soporific effect and will help you have a better night’s sleep.
Anzac Day is on a Saturday this year. We will be closed that day to honour our service people, men and women, past and present.
Brian will be opening on Sunday 3.30 till 6pm.
Stay true to your body, plan to keep your exercise up ALL Winter.
Cheers
