About Us - Staff Profiles
Staff at the Green Apple have been specially handpicked. They have been chosen because of the person they are, and not just for what they look like (which is not always the case in our industry).
The staff at the Green Apple genuinely like what they do and it shows. Staff members Cherryle, Barbara, Brian and Victoria have been at the Green Apple for more than 20 years and are all ageing gracefully together! Staff attrition is very low which provides a very stable environment for members.
The staff are fully qualified and are registered with Fitness Qld. They remain current in the latest research and methodology within the industry and, as a group, do resuscitation annually and First Aid every two years.

Over 20 years with the Green Apple
In 1980 I started here as a member and I was very impressed with how I was looked after in the centre then known as the Green Apple Gym. After sometime Victoria offered me a position to work here which I was very happy to accept, so after in-house training guided by Victoria it was then off to South Brisbane College to complete a course to become a Fitness Instructor. This was followed by Certificate 3 in Health and Fitness and now I am getting ready to complete my Certificate 4 in Personal Training. I Have been very fortunate to have been given the chances to grow in many different positions here and I thank Victoria for those chances.
At present you will find me teaching Forever Active Classes, Splashing Good Time Aqua for joint mobility problems, Stretch Classes and Advanced Pilates. And I have just returned back to taking Step and Fitball Classes. Of a Thursday afternoon I take Steady Steps Falls Prevention Program — this is such a rewarding program to be a part of.

Kai-Bo: Works every part of your body. Combination of punches & kicks to music. A great stress buster!
Urban rebounder : Workout on mini trampoline. Great for balance, core stability and co-ordination---and fun!
Program writing I write personal programs to assist gym members in achieving their goals.

I’ve been a part of the Green Apple Team for 3 years and you’ve probably seen me behind the Reception desk, running Forever Active classes or writing new programs. I also enjoy Personal Training whether it be cardio, strength, Power-Plate or performing Maltron Tests.
I joined my first gym as a member way back in 1976 as an 18 year old, strangely enough it was this very gym just a few years before Victoria took over in 78. After spending most of my adult life in and out of gyms I decided it might not be a bad idea to gain my certificate 3 and 4 in Health and Fitness and make a career out of it.
I’m very thankful to Victoria for giving me the opportunity here at the Green Apple, where I have been able to increase my knowledge by listening and watching staff members who have over 30 years experience. Each team member is unique and offers something special to the Green Apple. What I like most though is you the members, real people all with a interesting story to tell. I look forward to seeing you all at the Green Apple real soon.

I’m Libby Hanlon. I first met you at the Green Apple for my certificate iv in Fitness. Victoria offered me a job after that and I’ve recently started my third year at the Green Apple.
I became interested in exercise for older adults as an extension of my first career as a high school HPE teacher and I am really grateful to the experienced people I work with who mentor me.
You might see me at Reception or taking Forever Active classes. I also do new member inductions, Personal Training sessions, help Victoria send out birthday cards and make Not In Lately phone calls to all clients who we haven’t seen for awhile and may need some help getting started again.
I enjoy working in the positive atmosphere at the Green Apple created by all of you and my co-workers and I get a kick out of helping people work towards their goals. I feel privileged to share your story.

Health Services Facilitator
My background is one of working behind the desk in doctor’s clinic for the past 25 years, initially as a receptionist and then as a Practice Manager, and it is this experience which has contributed to my appointment here as the Health Services Facilitator. My main role is to liaise with doctors and their staff to fully inform them of the specialty services we have on offer at the Green Apple, designed to be of benefit both to their practices and certainly to enhance the lives of those patients who are committed to leading active and full lives into their senior years.
With Victoria’s forward thinking, accreditation of the centre and staff to provide courses and allied health services, in many cases funded by Medicare, is unique in the fitness industry. Sometimes, I feel like a social butterfly organizing GP (general Practitioner) breakfasts, and special invitation morning teas (which I love to do), the latter of which is a wonderful way of introducing people to the Green Apple in a very non-threatening way. It is a fun morning with participation in a Forever Active session, morning tea, and a short talk, and of course always accompanied by much fun and laughter — something we are noted for here at the Green Apple. Be sure to speak to any of our friendly staff or myself to obtain invitations for your family and friends. Both these functions will be ongoing throughout the year.
