Smarter Rehab with VALD Testing & Our New Joint Replacement Pathways

Smarter Rehab with VALD Testing & Our New Joint Replacement Pathways

At the Green Apple, we’re always looking for better ways to help our clients recover faster, move better, and return to the activities that matter most to them. One of the biggest upgrades to our rehab approach has been the increased use of VALD technology, and we are currently in the works of rolling out our new Total Knee, Total Hip, and Total Shoulder rehabilitation pathways.

What is VALD testing?
VALD is a piece of technology that allows us to accurately measure strength, balance, and function in a simple and objective way. Instead of guessing or relying only on how something “feels,” we can now see clear numbers that show how each side of the body is performing and how things are improving over time.

The devices used are the Force Plate and the Hand Dyno which send the results to our computer program which deciphers it all.

We’re using VALD more regularly across our rehab programs and seeing excellent results. It helps us identify weaknesses, track progress, and make informed decisions about when it’s safe to progress exercises or return to activity.

How does this fit into joint replacement rehab?

We’re now applying this technology to our Total Knee Replacement (TKR), Total Hip Replacement (THR), and Total Shoulder Replacement programs—starting before surgery and continuing right through long-term recovery.

Depending on when we see you, we can create a baseline assessment either pre-operatively, post-operatively, or both.

These assessments may include:

  • Knee, hip, and calf strength
  • Balance and stability
  • Functional movement tests
  • Pain and confidence measures

This information allows us to design an evidence-based, individualised rehab plan focused on the fastest and highest-quality recovery possible.

Our structured rehab phases:
Rehab is broken into clear stages, so you always know what you’re working toward:

  • Phase 0: Pre-op baseline and preparation appointment
  • Phase 1: Post-op baseline Assessment
  • Phase 2: Early post-operative Recovery
  • Phase 3: Strength and Movement Restoration
  • Phase 4: Long-term performance and return to meaningful activity

Each phase has specific goals and progression criteria, ensuring exercises advance safely and at the right time for you.

The goal?
To maximise function, minimise pain, and help you get back to doing what you love—stronger, more confident, and better supported every step of the way.

If you’d like to know more about VALD testing or our joint replacement rehab programs, book in for a 30 minute consultation with one of our Exercise Physiologists to discuss how the Assessment will help you.

We can provide Assessments for your particular needs in a 30 minute appointment.
