Hi All
Many of you will know that I have had a bilateral total knee reconstruction which has enabled me to return to many of the activities that I used to do before my knees became so dysfunctional that I was unable to walk any particular distance without significant pain. I am so grateful that this procedure was available to me on two fronts, first that I had a successful procedure and an excellent Orthopaedic surgeon and second, that my history here at Green Apple Wellness Centre has provided me with the knowledge that made my pre-and post-surgery activity totally successful.
It appears that hip replacements and knee replacements have reached almost epidemic proportions, and this is why we have developed programs within Green Apple to help our members, and any referrals from doctors and orthopaedic surgeons, to not only help people rehab well after the surgery but also to prepare for that surgery.
One of the initiatives we introduced in previous years has been a Workshop labelled Total Knee Reconstruction Workshop and this was initially delivered by Sunny and then Bridie and this year Bridie is able to bring it to you again. It is not just information and education for surgery purposes but also for all of you whom have knee pain or knee dysfunction.
In September Bridie will deliver two 90 minute sessions over two consecutive weeks and the fee for this, the total fee, is $55. If you, as a member (or an associate member, or anyone you know in the community who has been living with knee pain) enrol in this workshop, you will have a much greater understanding of how you can help yourself in conjunction with any doctors looking after you. Check the noticeboard in Reception, enrol to do the Workshop, and then pay asap to hold your place. I am hoping we have a great response to this because it is SO needed. If I had a dollar for every time someone has said to me “I wish I had known more” in relation to their knee problem and the potential medical pathways, as well as how to help themselves, I would be a rich woman! So, this is your opportunity to “know more”! Just Do It!
On a personal note, Brian has been asked to lead a little convoy of “antique cars” around Lamb Island on Saturday August 24. The “honour” has arisen because he has an ancient 1984 Mitsubishi Delica (with no power steering!) that he keeps on Lamb Island to trundle around in it and use the 4WD function on our place there. The “convoy” consists of people with some truly impressive old cars who will come from other Bay Islands by vehicular ferry. After the tour we will end up at the Father’s Day markets on Lamb, and a luncheon. Ask him how it all went!
Cheers
