Hi All
The weather is changing and we are very aware of how this will affect the heat of the water in the swimming pool. John is working daily to find the right balance so that we can continue to keep the water warm enough for you to be able to get into and do your exercise, and as consistent in temperature as possible. The pool blanket that we used to cover the pool also helps to conserve the water warmth and this is why we replace it if we know the pool is not being used at any time.
I can always remember the experience of hopping into a warm water pool down in Tasmania during winter. It was a bracing experience because the pool was in the open air so I made sure I had a warm jacket on right up to the time I got into the water and then was able to put it on again straight afterwards.
I have been told of a product that is being sold for this purpose. It is made of very warm material, it’s a bit like a dressing gown and the idea is that you come to Green Apple dressed in something like that, covering your swimming gear, take it off before you get in the water and be ready to put it on again afterwards. That is why we have the “disrobing” room for ladies next to the ladies toilet downstairs. It will only take you a few seconds to move from pool to changeroom.
I will source more information about this but if anybody can help me find the supplier of such a garment I’d like to hear from you.
I encourage any of you needing the buoyancy of water to be able to exercise more easily (because of sore joints and painful soft tissue) especially during the cold months, to book in to have your water program specially designed by Josie, and then to attend her 10am water class on Wednesdays so she can keep an eye on your technique and progress. This class requires no extra fee and will be invaluable to those of some of you.
We are looking for people who would like to do Pilates reformer work in the company of others. We have some members who have already had their induction session in Pilates reformer exercises and now would like to participate in a group of three so they can take advantage of the reasonable cost.
This is the time to find out if Pilates really works for you. During the month of May you can have your one-on-one hour induction with Jesse, Josie or Loretta for the reduced fee of $70 and to have group sessions for $25 per person.
Currently I am trialing a Pilates Reformer and Pilates Matt class membership which will enable people to access Green Apple purely for their Pilates work, and participate in several sessions weekly. Pilates on its own does not provide the total benefit of the physical activity needed to best maintain our body, so using other services is the best option, however it may be the preferred option for some.
Beth Culpitt is the winner of our big basket of goodies, thank you for your participation in our My Health for Life activities Beth, and thank you to all the Green Apple team who contributed so generously to the big basket!
Cheers,
