The Weekly Bite – Monday 21 July, 2025 —Issue 2676

Hi All

Did you know Charlie and Ben will be doing the Sunshine Coast half marathon on Sunday, August 3. The half marathon commences at Alexandra Headland Surf Club at Mooloolaba, at 7:15 am and Brian and I will make every effort to attend to support them. Charlie and Ben had even coerced Nathan into coming back to participate in the 10 km event and this will commence at 9 am that day. If you would like something to do on August 3 and feel a trip to Mooloolaba might be on the cards, then we might see you up there. I am sure Charlie and Ben will be happy to see any familiar Green Apple faces, and we will be happy to catch up with Nathan if it is possible.

This brings back old memories for me. Decades ago we used to take a group from Green Apple down for the Gold Coast marathon, setting up a tent in the early hours of the morning often in places where we were probably not meant to be but there to support the Green Apple cohort running in the half marathon event. Brian and I did countless half marathons over the years and finally decided to do one marathon to satisfy ourselves that we could do it. Brian wanted to do his marathon in under 3 1/2 hours and I wanted to do my marathon in under four hours and, happy to say, we were successful.

You may have noticed the upgrade in our CCTV system in Green Apple. The primary reason is to provide extra monitoring of the areas in Green Apple where you will be exercising. The last Risk Management assessment done in Green Apple provided me with the updated requirements which would enable us to observe any incidents or accidents within the Centre. This increased monitoring is to keep you all safe, just as the Defibrillator hanging in the Main Weights room provides us with the most updated resuscitation resource. We hope these measures are never required to deal with emergencies however, for Workplace Health and Safety purposes, we need to have certain measures in place.

The Pilates Reformer studio will also have this inhouse monitoring service to ensure anyone using the area will feel protected, especially if using the room solo. All monitored areas are public exercise spaces only, No cameras are installed in private areas such as clinic rooms, change rooms (upstairs/downstairs), or poolside toilets.

Keep up your great attendance during Winter.  I am so glad to see so many of you making the effort, not easy but very worth it!
