The Weekly Bite – Monday 26th May, 2025—Issue 2618

Hi All

There is some great reading in this weeks’s newsletter. Part three of “Brittle to the Bone “continues to encourage us to use appropriate exercise to keep our bones as strong and as dense as possible throughout all our life. Dr Fiatarone Singh is an amazing woman.  I have known of her work and valuable research for years and have also had a similar area of interest in relation to bone density for more than four decades myself. Osteoporosis is a silent condition and if we know more about it we can take positive action before it gets to the stage that it is causing pain and dysfunction.

The first part of the article “Inflammation and obesity: which starts the cycle” is also interesting because the research is indicating that some of us will have inflammatory processes going on which could possibly be controlled with help from our resident dietitians. Since this research may “translate into inflammation being the result of obesity, rather than a contributing factor to it”, a consultation with dietitians Loretta and Lay might help with reduction of our inflammation levels.

On the front page, the article “High-quality carbs in midlife linked to healthier ageing”, discusses the type of healthy carbohydrates we need to expose ourselves to and the research that has been done showing the ageing-effects of poor quality carbohydrates.

This article provides valuable information about carbohydrates, and reading this may help some of us to consider both our carbohydrate and protein intake in relation to staying sharp-in-mind and agile as well as retaining muscle as we age.

If “wellness” is our goal then getting the quantity and quality of what we’re eating right for us individually is a no-brainer really. This is one of the reasons we have our resident dietitians under the Green Apple roof. It all helps!

Cheers
