The Weekly Bite – Monday 28th November, 2022 —Issue 2492

Hi All

Many of you will know how passionate I am about everything we do at Green Apple and perhaps understand the reasons I have introduced and initiated certain services that I consider will significantly and positively benefit the people Green Apple is here to help.

After more than 40 years as a Clinical Massage provider I am thoroughly convinced in the efficacy of hands-on work IF the problem is adversely-affected soft tissue. In fact, there are many instances where Clinical Massage is the only really effective form of treatment because it is addressing the huge areas of fascia and multiple different types of connective tissue holding the body together. There are many other modalities that treat the body that will be effective in appropriate instances including physiotherapy, chiropractic practices, osteopathy, acupuncture however true Clinical Massage is the final bastion of hands-on tissue release.

One of the areas of research that has been growing, especially since the onset of COVID-19, has been in the use of massage in managing mental health conditions. The rates of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress syndrome, stress and psychological distress have significantly increased.

Identified individuals at risk include people from all walks of life and in all environments including pregnant women, cancer patients, individuals with generalised anxiety order, pre-operative surgical patients, diagnosed and under-diagnosed depressed individuals, Veterans, DV and sexual abuse individuals, the list is endless.

Some physical (eg pain) and psychological symptoms-based conditions can occur and they have a reciprocal relationship. This research shows there is a link between pain and symptoms of depression. Massage treatment focused on pain management may inadvertently influence mental health conditions and a caring and empathetic massage may affect higher brain centres, positively influencing mood and mental health.

It is because I hold Massage in such high esteem that I send you all a personally written birthday card on your special day and the gift I include is a $20 gift to use if you book a Massage. I deem this the most valuable present I can provide and something that will help significantly in the health and wellness journey you are making within Green Apple.

If you want to know if you will benefit from having this sort of treatment, email me on [email protected]. I will respond to any and every person who wants direct contact with me. I have had so many “incidents” during my life that have benefitted from massage work (spinal fusion, bilateral total knee surgery, fractured ribs from cycle and motorcycle falls, broken bones with plates and screws in leg and wrist, massive shoulder surgery, foot trauma (big toe rammed back into my foot in a motorcycle incident), two thirds of my R hamstring ripped off the bone (and told I would never walk properly and I have run a marathon since then). Massage has played a major part in my life both as a recipient and a provider.

Cheers
