The Weekly Bite – Monday 30 March 2026 —Issue 2662

Hello to all Green Apples

Did you remember to put your name down for our VALD Educational and Demonstration session being held this week on Tuesday, March 31 at 11am. We will be catering for a Cuppa and Nibbles after it, at 12noon, and we need to get some idea of numbers attending.

This VALD session may be of interest to your family and/or friends and you are welcome to bring them with you. We have private patients at Green Apple who like to access our latest technology.

Did you know that we don’t charge an additional fee for the use of our VALD service? You are only asked to pay for the exercise physiologist’s consultation fee. A 30-minute session (Full Members $73.45, Private patients $93.45) is all that is needed to do the testing. And you can use your Medicare session or private health fund rebate with the Exercise Physiologists.

Are petrol prices, and a possibility of petrol rationing, concerning you yet?

Have you considered catching a 50-Cent train to Green Apple instead of bringing your car?

We are so lucky to have a railway station, Bald Hills, on our doorstep! We have members all along this rail corridor and if you live close enough to the station, you may like to walk the distance. Even if you have to drive your car to the railway station and catch the train to Bald Hills, the cost of the trip will be minimal and sometimes I think that the train is much faster than driving or, should I say, sitting in traffic somewhere?

I wonder how many members will band together and use one vehicle and a pickup system. I can remember hearing my mother talking to a friend about what they did during World War II to get around the place when petrol was rationed.

My father was a British Army doctor, a prisoner of war, captured in Singapore, and my mother had four very young children (twins and two others within 4 years) and she and an army woman appointed to help her would take 2 children each, one behind/one in front on their bicycles when they went out.

When Brian and I did a cycling trip in Vietnam, we saw people transporting the whole family on bikes, chooks, mattresses etc. Nothing was in the too hard basket!

I am sure any fair dinkum Aussie will find a way to get around when times are tough!

Cheers
