The Weekly Bite – Monday 30th October, 2023 —Issue 2539

Hi to you all

Thank you to our early bird members who had a great conversation over their coffee at AHOY one morning about “how to get up from the floor after a fall”. The conversation led to a suggestion that it would be a good topic to explore with an Exercise Physiologist, just in case an educated, tried-and-true method would be best to use rather than scrabbling around (possibly in a state of shock) when/if it happens to us!

Representatives from this group, Margot Humphreys and Pam Keir, shared their idea with me at the same time that we started a project inhouse on “How to get up from the floor”. This had been initiated by team member Katrina Bethell at one of our Team Meetings (a weekly event at 11am on Tuesdays) and exercise physiologist, Ben, was delegated the task to complete it. The plan was to use it as a training session for all the Team so it was an amazing coincidence that our Earlybird members had also broached the topic.

So, all is set now to deliver this to you!

When: Friday, November 3, 6.30am.

The plan is to have a 30-minute-only Mystery Class with Nathan that day and  then he will deliver the Mini-Workshop on HOW TO GET UP FROM THE FLOOR” directly afterwards at 6.30am in the Aerobic Room. Anyone interested in this topic is invited to attend and we will put a notice up in Reception for names so we have some idea of numbers.

Our Tai Chi groups have been progressing well and Michele tells me that now she has participants who have grasped the key elements of this art, she can absorb some new people into the class. If you are interested in adding Tai Chi to your exercise repertoire and you can make the time either Tuesday morning 10. 30am or Wednesday 5.45pm, enquire at Reception for more details.  There is a fee to enrol in this activity.

Charlotte Barnes writes to you all:

“I want to thank everyone who was able to attend my farewell morning tea a couple of weeks ago and also those who weren’t able to come but wanted to! I appreciated everyone making the effort and I am still reading through the big card with all the lovely messages!
Thank you!!!

And finally, CONGRATULATIONS to Katrina Bethell for surviving her Base Everest ordeal. We had Katrina here last week as our Guest Speaker at our Team meeting and she had great stories to tell. Katrina is back on deck from this week.

Cheers Victoria
