The Weekly Bite – Monday 7th November, 2022 —Issue 2489

Hi All

Can you believe that now we have moved into November, Christmas is approaching super-fast. We have planned our Christmas schedule already and when Sonya returns from her holiday break we will gazette the times and classes that are planned over the Christmas/New Year week.

Keeping our physical activity going over the festive season is probably more important than at any other time of the year because it can be a challenging time for so many reasons. Our exercise might be the difference between coping and not coping with certain things in life. Some of us will struggle to manage eating sensibly (far too many food and drink temptations?) or may have emotional and mental health issues from losses we have experienced. Christmas seems to bring so many issues to the surface that are submerged at other times of the year. Physical activity at these times can help provide us with necessary positive diversion.

Body composition testing using the Maltron test is a great thing to do at this time of year because it will give you important data about your body that weighing and measuring can’t do.

Understanding how much of your body is vital, functional tissue and how much is adipose tissue (fat) can be tracked every 6 months to give you a better perspective of what you need to be doing in relation to your diet and exercise. See the information below for dates and times and think about adding your name to the list on the noticeboard.

Did you know that the Splashing Good Time class on Wednesday at 10am is a form of group hydrotherapy. Your exercises in the water are prescribed individually based on what you need to be improving on your body. This is particularly valuable for people who have biomechanical problems which can be addressed well in the buoyant environment of water. Personally I am not really a “water-person” but I did use the pool successfully during the rehab for my bilateral total knee replacements as well as my extensive shoulder surgery. In both cases I was able to achieve a range of motion that I was struggling with on land so I combined my buoyant water exercise with my gravity-loaded land exercises for best results.

If you would like to be included in this small group you will need a 30 PT session with Zach to have your exercise prescribed and then you can join in on Wednesday at a fee weekly of $8.

Cheers
